An educator for 26 years, Sue Beers has been a teacher, administrator, professional development director, and consultant. Beers also conducts professional development as an ASCD Faculty member for schools, districts, states and other organizations throughout the world. She is the coauthor of the ASCD action tools Reading Strategies for the Content Areas, Volume 1; Reading Strategies for the Con-tent Areas, Volume 2; and Using Writing to Learn Across the Content Areas.

Description of Workshop:
This workshop contains many crucial and timely issues including:
- Understanding the new literacy skills needed in the 21st century
- Becoming familiar with the Partnership for 21st Century Skills Framework
- Focusing on how to implement the CCSS through a lens of the “4 C’s” of 21st Century Skills: communication, collaboration, critical thinking and creativity.
- Identifying how technology and information literacy can be infused with the CCSS
- Identifying how instruction might be adapted to help students gain 21st century skills.
- Improving teaching and administrative practices
Expected Outcomes:
- Identify new literacy skills students will need to be successful in postsecondary lives and careers
- Select instructional tools and strategies appro-priate for teaching 21st century skills
- Plan how to adapt instruction and infrastructure for teaching 21st century skills
