from Sandy Clifton-BaconGreetings to all members of CASCD,
The challenge of the current state economy coupled with our Governor's proposed education budget is unacceptable to our educational community. Included in the current newsbrief, Spring 2008, is an article by Sharron Zoller discussing your California Leadership Council's presence in Sacramento early in March. The purpose of our visit with legislators was to impress upon them how education, after ten years of annual cuts, can not absorb the brunt of the budget shortfalls. Any further cuts are simply unacceptable. Our legislators need to look deeply at revenue enhancers or other areas to cut services.
Please join us in making that message clear to your local legislators. We can not return to days of 40 students in classrooms. We can not afford to participate in mandated programs without full funding from the state and federal government.
In a year with such an emphasis on educating the "whole child" our state leaders must return greatness to public education.
