ASCD California

President's Message

President Dr. Jason Angle

California ASCD, the state affiliate for the internationally active ASCD, offers tremendous    resources to educators in the state of California.  Whether you are a new teacher or leader or a veteran educator with years of experience, CASCD membership offers opportunities for statewide and international networking.  You are provided access to a monthly Curriculum Feed to keep abreast of the latest workshops, legislative actions, instructional best practices, and current educational issues and trends.  You can also participate in hot topic discussions and access links to reliable resources for learning, teaching and leading.

The world is changing rapidly and this is reflected in the current funding, legislation, and credentialing structures for teachers and leaders.  Current societal issues are reflected in classrooms and schools leading to an ever present need to understand our students and their families, including how to support students who are new to our schools, have experienced trauma and/or poverty, or who are in non-traditional family structures such as group homes or foster care.  California ASCD supports education of the whole child and continuous opportunities for professional learning and networking to ensure the development of the whole educator to meet the needs of the ever-changing needs of the students we serve.

Addressing challenges and solving problems are a continuous part of being an educator.  We constantly seek ways to improve our practices and to understand how to navigate change in order to increase efficacy and efficiency of practice.  California ASCD partners with schools, districts and county offices to identify problems of practice and to seek strategic actions to meet the challenges.

CASCD has pioneered a unique, personalized approach to creating professional development, putting the interests, needs and pedagogical issues of the educators first.  It starts with a conversation.  We assist in structuring professional development opportunities to address school and district priorities through workshops, cadre work over time, and blended in person and on-line sessions.

California ASCD is a vibrant, agile organization with an abundance of resources, networking opportunities,  and professional development structures and topics.  Members benefit from the expertise of nationally known and local experts with a passion and dedication to educating the Whole Child, supporting California educators, and leading advocacy efforts for adequate funding and support for students, teachers, and leaders in California. California ASCD looks forward to your membership.
